What Is Coco Peat?
Coco peat — also known in the trade as coco coir or coir pith — is the fine, spongy material extracted from the fibrous outer shell (husk) of coconuts. Despite the name, it contains absolutely zero peat and is a 100% peat-free growing medium.
As a growing medium, coco peat delivers excellent water retention combined with natural aeration — creating the open, oxygen-rich root zone that plants need to thrive. It is used across containers, raised beds, propagation trays, grow bags, and full hydroponic systems.

How to Prepare Your Coco Peat Brick
From compressed brick to ready-to-use growing medium in under 30 minutes. Our coco peat is pre-buffered and pH-balanced — no extra treatment required.
Use a clean bucket, trug, or mixing tub with a minimum capacity of 75 litres. A standard 70–100L garden trug is ideal. Make sure it is free from residues of previous media or chemicals.
Add 20 litres of clean water before placing the brick. Warm water speeds expansion — cold tap water works too. For precise nutrient programmes, use RO water or pH-neutral tap water.
Place the brick in the water and allow it to fully hydrate. Do not rush — full expansion takes 20–30 minutes. Occasional stirring helps ensure even water distribution throughout.
Break apart the softened coir using gloved hands or a garden fork. Work through thoroughly — no large clumps or compacted zones. Well-fluffed coir retains the air channels roots need.
Use 100% for hydroponics and microgreens. For containers and raised beds, blend with compost and perlite — we recommend 50:30:20 (coco:compost:perlite) as a starting point.
